When fully cocked, it’s a nimble 6.125 inches wide and weighs in at 7.6 pounds. It’s available in black or TrueTimber Strata or Mossy Oak Country camo. The crossbow was designed, and is built, right here in the USA, though the company has not yet released a price for it yet.
Mathews is continuing its tradition of smooth-shooting bows in 2020, but is doing it in a different way with the VXR. All new this year is an extended six-bridge riser designed to add strength and stability, but reduce weight. The new riser is also made to perform perfectly with their hugely successful Crosscentric cam system, which keeps arrow speed plenty zippy while providing the shooting comfort that Mathews is well known for. Also included is a module (new last year) that allows you to adjust the peak weight by 5 pounds. Finally, Mathews is introducing a Silent Connect System, which allows you to quietly attach their new pull-up rope or bow sling. I shot a whole lot of smooth-shooting bows at this year’s ATA, but none smoother than this one. It was also quiet and dead-in-the-hand. And it’s certainly no slouch at 343 IBO. I shot both the 28-inch version and this 31-½-incher, and both settled on target immediately and stayed there. All and all, this is yet another excellent offering from Mathews.
PSE sets the bar in terms of total number of new models for 2020 with a whopping 10 offerings. We’ll focus on the Pro series here which includes the Carbon Stealth and EVO lines, which account for seven new-for-2020 models. Let’s start with the carbon bows. The Carbon Air Stealth line is feather-light, weighing about 3.5 pounds and is available in Mach 1 (31 1/8”, 332 fps, 3.5 pounds), EC (33”, 342 fps, 3.3 pounds) and EM (34” in length with short draw-length options) configurations. The EVO NXT line features aluminum risers and laid-back limb configurations along with a redesigned grip system and a lowered stabilizer mount improved pendulum effect after the shot. The NXT 33 is 33 inches in length with a brace height of 7 inches and speeds up to 322 fps. The NXT spans 35 inches, has a 6 7/8” brace height and speeds up to 328 fps. It’s also available in a long-draw version with draw lengths up to 32 inches. The NXT 21 is, you guessed it, 31 inches in length. It has a 6 1/2” brace height and speeds up to 329 fps.

Mathews’ 2020 flagship bow comes in two lengths: 28 inches for your whitetail/treestand hunter and 31.5 inches for archers looking for a bit more stability through length. Either way, each bow is designed for stability, and Mathews pulled from the target archery world to build the riser for the VXR. We put this compound bow through its paces for this review and came away impressed. The bow is designed to shoot quietly and stay dead in the hands, and the online reviews echo that. Poundage moves in 5-pound increments from 60 to 75, for draw lengths from 26.5 to 31 inches, and the bow weighs in at 4.66 pounds naked. It also incorporates the Switchweight modules found on last year’s flagship Vertix model. Somehow, the bows stay very similar in speed, with the 28-inch model shooting at 344 feet per second and the 31.5-inch shooting at 343.
Rungu “Straight Up” Climb-ability: Rungu Dualie the center of gravity is much further forward than on other e-bikes, you’ll be able to climb much steeper hills without getting out of the saddle. In fact, on a Rungu, you’ll be able to climb a 40 percent grade while on other e-bikes, you’ll lose front-wheel traction at around 20 percent.
